Since Recently :
There is a saying in my homeland you play with fire and you might get burnt .That is what happened to Saudi Arabian blogger Raif Badawi who has a website 'Free Saudi Liberals ' to encourage debate about religion and politics has been charged with 1,000 lashes and ten years in jail . He is also fined 1 million riyals ($266,000) .So that's 50 lashes for 20 weeks . He is being charged for
insulting Islam and for slamming country clerics . His lawyer has also been given 15 years in prison and Raif Badawi has already received 50 of his lashes .His wife who lives in Canada with his children fears for him due to him being diabetic .
Now if any of you fellow readers have any relatives who are diabetic you know that due to the bodys inability to to process glucose it makes wounds harder to heal and can cause complications .If he grew up knowing the laws of his homeland and resides there .Why break them ? . America argues free speech but they aren't willing to go any further because they are dependent on Saudi Arabia's oil and trying to keep up appearances and keep their union civil . But what about other countries who at United Nations meetings are quick to proclaim human rights , what has happened to them ? Have they forgotten human rights . Or are they only quick to when one of their citizen's rights are being violated . Are we not all humans ?
Let them deal with their own some would proclaim but when the government which governs us pass unfair rulings in which we are involved we want international help . Nobody is perfect but I thought we were pass the days of whipping . The man isn't a horse or donkey . He isn't an animal you're trying to break in .I thought that was why we were higher up on the list .Imprisonment i understand , but 1,000 lashes ! . Plus they have knowledge of his medical history , have they no compassion .No , an example must be made . Laws are what upholds a country . People cannot be told what to do and it is expected of them to do it without fear .They have a religion to protect , traditions .
I thought we were born free and unless we are harming someone physically or mentally then measures have to be taken. Free speech they say .He was never free .
However it is not Raif Badawi 's first offense . But he decided to speak . Something he is paying the price for .Has this changed anything . For me it has . Religion holds us and breaks us . Some use religion for there own deeds .If they had given him 50 I might've understood .
If the people didn't stand for it , it wouldn't happen. Yet who am I to judge their laws and religion. Societies which have denounced religion are those societies in which the youths are going astray .
We need to get ourselves to get together .
Should he be freed , I won't say , the humanitarian side says yes , the side that follows rules and regulations and guidelines says no .Is it right , to them yes , to you no .
Since the death of King Abdullah will things change ?
It might but somewhere in the world something else is going .Remember that this world isn't perfect. Another inhumane act is going to pop up .
Are we not to live and express ourselves . But he knew what he was supposedly getting into to , he was playing with fire . Or another anology is that he flew too close to the sun and the heat melted the wax that was holding the feather together for the wings .Didn't he read about young Icarius ?

HAS SOCIAL MEDIA RUINED US ?
Since recently i have been thinking , has social media ruined us ? We might have reached that point in movies where machines have taken over and now its in the shape and form of social media and now its at our fingertips .
Every year these mobile companies come up with a new feature , modernisation they say , technological advancement .It makes life easier .But hasn't some of these 'new features' limited us . When was the last time you calculated something , without a fancy calculator , without the calculator app on your phone ?
Kids ask why should i learn to add , subtract , multiply , divide when a caalculator can do it for me ?
When the machines aren't nearby or the cash register break down and they are given an on spot simple Mathematic problem they are confused and lost .
But aren't they limiting themselves , not achieving there full potential .Textbooks are becoming a thing of old . But recent studies have shown that kids learn better and store information longer using textbooks .
Teens and people in general have found more purpose in life posting pictures and writing witty quotes than actual living .Giving a glimpse of a mere fraction of the reality of there lives to seem cool and popular . Social media has helped in spreading self doubt , lack of self worth and verbal abuse .
We broadcast every thing , showcase everything , we check it every night before we go to sleep , every morning we wake , in the middle of the night , during work , it is checked more than our children or dogs are .
We have devoted so much time and energy into these things when things of greater importance are passing us by .
Instead of waiting for the next Kim Kardashian or Beyonce picture to drop why not read an article about what is happening in recent news on the ebola virus . What has happened in the Eastern part of the world , what is happening in your communities , your homes ?
When was the last time you spent time with your family .
I agree we all have to take a break from the serious stuff . But sometimes we need to take a break from silly stuff . Women , men and children are being abused worldwide , bombs are going off . Girls are thinking that the only way to get attention is to show themselves naked on the internet .
Males believe the only way they will be seen as tough is by getting tattoo .People are homeless , people are jobless , children are being sold into prostitution .Slavery has not ended it has just been hidden or renamed and all you would have done in your lives is tap away at your social media gadgets and play dumb to the world until it happens to you .
People get robbed for these gadgets , people die in car crashes every year using them and some end up on these social medias which some of you parents put them on without proper supervision and the predators come out . Sometimes they become too exposed . Sometimes we don't all know our children as we think we do . Somtimes we as adults become prey and fall victims to the predators .
Sex sells and we have made a platform for it .We all say nothing is wrong with us appreciating each others bodies . It is your decision on what to do with your body .And every naked picture is called art.Have we lost all creativity or is this the only way our 'art ' can be displayed on social media to garner attention or have we lost meaning of the word 'art' .
The government in Jamaica and other countries have made tablets accessible to students free of cost they say but at the end of the day you pay the tax so it should be yours . I think it helps because in such a technological world kids need to be educated on how to use these devices in their future work environment .
But you can't give students tablets and not food .They say they have PATH programme in Jamaica which helps students whose parents can't help them but these children cannot get on such a programme .Yet children whose parents are teachers , clerks etc are on such pogrammes , who can afford to give to their children .
The education system needs to be revised , how can you be teaching children descriptive writing , story writing ad when they graduate from school they have no knowledge of how to write a job application .
Giving the children tablets is one step but they need jobs , proper learning environments , opportunities , a better economy not just false hope .
We need to use social media for other things than vanity , what has happened to us ?
Are we not our brothers keeper ?
We all need to get our act together , this is our country , this is our world . Things only happen because we 'all ' allow them to .
